I am an award-winning naturalist who specializes in urban wildlife with a focus on Great Horned Owls in the Midwest. I have been a Missouri Master Naturalist since 2013 and Certified Interpretive Guide since 2020. I lead an average of 70 owl prowls per year and average 50 presentations per year throughout Illinois, Missouri, and beyond for a wide range of organizations and institutions. I have presented for over 20 Audubon chapters in 4 states, over 20 garden clubs in 2 states, dozens of libraries in 2 states, the Smithsonian Institutions and National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Mark H.X. Glenshaw is an award-winning naturalist. Since December 2005 hes has closely observed and documented the lives of Great Horned Owls in Forest Park, a large urban park in St. Louis, Missouri. Mark’s program, “Great Horned Owls: Hiding In Plain Sight”, covers how he found these owls, basic facts about the species, and uses many of his photos and videos to illustrate the amazing behaviors of these beautiful birds.

Length

75-90 minutes is what I prefer but I can go as short as 60 minutes.

Fees

For programs within an hour's drive of my home in St. Louis, my standard fee is $200. For programs further afield, my fee increases with distance so that my travel expenses are covered. I do not seek to make money but nor can I go in the red. My programs are my programs are energetic, informative, entertaining and well-organized and travel expenses and time away from work are not insignificant,

A/V Needs

I can provide a laptop. I need a data projector (with an HDMI input) with a projection screen (or a clean white wall) OR a large screen TV (with an HDMI input), a lectern (or small table) for my laptop, and a table for display materials.

Additional Information

In addition to this general talk about the Great Horned Owls, I have three additional owl programs. One program is about the owls hunting and feeding behaviors. Another discusses the mating, nesting and owlets and one teaches you how to find the owls in your area using what I have learned in my work studying owls. The organizations and institutions that host my programs frequently host one program and the first program goes so well that they invite me back to deliver the other three programs. After I have given all four programs, my hosts often have me back to give all four programs again with the new information and insights that I have obtained in the meantime.
