Title
Some less than well-known examples of bird food: highlights from four years of insect surveys at Green River Lowlands (Lee County, IL)
Subject(s)
Description
Since 2020 my students and I have been conducting insect surveys at the Green River Lowlands preserves in Lee County, Illinois. Every field season yields new, fascinating versions of what the invertebrate world has to offer. In this talk we explore examples of less well-known insect species that make valuable contributions to thriving ecosystems in some unusual ways. From wasps that have legs similar to Popeye’s arms to beetles that harvest poison from other dead beetles to give as gifts to potential mates, these insects are sure to entertain and inspire.
