Chris Evans

Chris is an Extension Forestry and Research Specialist with the University of Illinois. He specializes in forest management, restoration, forest health, invasive species, and native plants. Chris currently serves as an associate editor for the Natural Areas Journal, vice president of the Midwest Invasive Plant Network, and is on the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission.

Even though it is the Prairie State, Illinois is home to abundant and diverse forests. This presentation will discuss the history of forests and trees in Illinois, the diversity of tree species in Illinois, and the geographic and geologic reasons why we have such diversity. The presentation will also highlight interesting and/or uncommon trees native to Illinois.
