Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge - A Dream Realized!

Description

This presentation will provide a backdrop for how a group of concerned citizens worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, conservation partners, and the public to establish Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge. The presentation will also provide an overview of the significant natural resources that occur within the footprint of the Refuge and that serve as the framework for the Refuge. The role of the Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge in supporting the conservation goals of the Refuge and – in some cases restoring those resources will be presented. Consistent with the Friend’s mission to “connect” people with these resources, the role of the Friends in conservation outreach will be presented. Finally, the role of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge in promoting biodiversity on a regional scale and providing vital ecosystem services that strengthen resiliency to climate change will be presented.
