Do you want a birding trip that is bird friendly? Are you a bike fan? Are you a beer nerd?
If you answered yes to any one of these questions then this will be a fun morning of bicycling the paved Rock Island Trail from Dunlap into Peoria. There are several large habitat areas along the route including restored prairie, wetlands and old growth forest. On this field trip, we will observe late spring migrants and species that also use this area during breeding season.
This is a leisurely ride, all downhill, and we will stop to explore and identify birds along the way. We will visit a microbrewery for a tour and have brunch at an English pub. Leaders Greg DuBois and Brian “Fox” Ellis will help us find birds, manage bikes and enjoy the best craft beers Peoria has to offer.
Optional Extension: If you are game to extend the trip, we can glide downhill to the Peoria Riverfront, observe a Bald Eagle’s nest, a glimpse of waterfowl along the shore and another microbrewery. Shuttle will be provided back to your car.
Trip Leader: Greg DuBois and Brian ‘Fox’ Ellis
Cost of trip includes lunch, snacks, and water and return shuttle. (Participants will be responsible for their alcohol purchases.)
