Hartman Spring Nature Preserve is a natural area comprised of upland forest, a spring community and pasture, located in the Cretaceous Hills Section of the Coastal Plain Natural Division. The 40-acre nature preserve comprises the Britton Spring Illinios Natural Area Inventory site (#22) which provides high-quality habitat for the spotted dusky salamander (Desmognathus conanti), a state-endangered species. Hartman Spring Nature Preserve is north of the Mounds blacktop in Pulaski County, approximately one mile northwest of Mounds, Illinois. It was the wish of the previous owners, Milton and Ginny Hartman, to preserve the area in perpetuity. Hartman Spring was dedicated as a Nature Preserve on February 27, 2012.
