New Salem State Park & Hand of Fate Brewery (Petersburg, Illinois)
Join us for an immersion in the art of bird watching and the craft of fine brewing. We are offering four trips this spring during the peak of spring migration. Though no experience is needed, experienced birders will be enthused. Your intrepid guide is both a beer nerd and bird nerd, Brian “Fox” Ellis. A rare bird indeed, he specializes in beer history and the contributions of John James Audubon to ornithology through a living-history portrayal.
We will meet at the New Salem State Park Visitors Center at 8:00 am. The hike will wander along the forested bluffs above the Sangamon River where we are aiming to catch the peak of spring migration of warblers heading north. We will then head up the road to Hand of Fate Brewery for a beer tasting and lunch.
Tours will last approximately 3-4 hours, followed by a beer themed brunch and brewery tour/tasting.
