Walking in the Footsteps of Ridgway

Registration Information ↓

Travel to Olney, Illinois, for a spring migration field trip that explores the areas visited by Robert Ridgway. Our host will be Pete Weber, current chapter president of the Ridgway Chapter.

Organized in 1925, the chapter was led by Ridgway who had settled in Olney upon semi-retirement from his occupation as curator of birds at the Smithsonian Institute. Well known birder Leroy Harrison will be our guide as we visit places such as Bailey’s Wetland, East Fork Lake, Red Hill State Park and Beall Woods. Exact locations will be determined by Leroy for optimum warbler viewing.

For those arriving the night before, we will have an after-hours tour of the Richland Heritage museum to enjoy some Ridgway memorabilia. And, of course, we’ll be on the lookout for the famous Olney white squirrels.

Trip cost includes lunch, snacks, water and van transportation the day of the trip.
